Continuity between 12 and 24 hour clock

When setting rules in the Android app, you specify the times in 24 hour clock.

Once saved the rule is shown with the times in 12 hour clock with an AM or PM suffix.

This, while a little annoying, is OK.

The problem comes when you go to edit that rule.

Any PM times get turned into AM times, meaning you have to assist both the start and stop times, even if you only actually wanted to adjust one or the other.

Could we update the app so it is 24 hour only. Or of people want the 12 hour option let them select that in settings.

Either way, the interface needs to be consistent.

Got your point, Escribblings! By default, the WEMO app follows the 12-hour clock convention but I'll share your feedback to the Engineering team.

BTW, is the app up to date? Have you tried to uninstall and re-install the app? If you have another handheld device, you may also use it to check if the PM will default to AM when you edit the rules.

Re: Continuity between 12 and 24 hour clock

Hello escribblings

I've been going on about this issue for ages.

I'm very pleased that Belkin has actually responded to you about it. Perhaps the matter will be addressed at last, but don't hold your breath as they say. There have been updates to the app since I started complaining about it but in every one it has been ignored, even though it would probably be one of the simplest issues Belkin has ever had to sort out.

Regards

Pete

OK, first things first, I got 1 point wrong.  If you don't touch a time it stays the same.  But if you edit it slightly you have to cycle through the 24 hour clock to get it right (if it is a PM time).

On to your questions.

  1. Is the app up yo date? - Yes.
  2. Have I uninstalled/re-installed the app? - Yes.
  3. Can I check another device? - Yes
  4. Does it also revert? - Yes

I will now deomstrate graphically...

Firstly, just to confirm, here is my app version (the same on all devices (a Samsung Galaxy S5 and a Samsung Galaxy S5 mini)):

 photo Screenshot_2015-12-02-10-01-16_zpsssmamyxv.png
photobucket.com/.../Screenshot_2015-12-02-10-01-16

Here are my rules, note they are shown in 24 hour format:

 photo Screenshot_2015-12-02-10-11-09_zpspw27vkhl.png
photobucket.com/.../Screenshot_2015-12-02-10-11-09

Selecting 1 of my rules still shows 24 hour format:

 photo Screenshot_2015-12-02-10-11-20_zpslzvzom7p.png
photobucket.com/.../Screenshot_2015-12-02-10-11-20

The moment I enter edit mode it switches to 12 hour format:

 photo Screenshot_2015-12-02-10-11-26_zpsacozmsvj.png
photobucket.com/.../Screenshot_2015-12-02-10-11-26

Entering the edit time section still shows suffixes:

 photo Screenshot_2015-12-02-10-14-09_zpszudktgit.png
photobucket.com/.../Screenshot_2015-12-02-10-14-09

Selecting a time and just cancelling changes nothing, as does not selecting a time at all (this was the bit I got wrong):

 photo Screenshot_2015-12-02-10-11-52_zps0wdwx7w7.png
photobucket.com/.../Screenshot_2015-12-02-10-11-52

 photo Screenshot_2015-12-02-10-14-09_zpszudktgit.png
photobucket.com/.../Screenshot_2015-12-02-10-14-09

However, when you edit a time that should be PM and don't add 12 hours to it...

 photo Screenshot_2015-12-02-10-14-27_zpsllldm57d.png
photobucket.com/.../Screenshot_2015-12-02-10-14-27

it drops the suffix and treats it as a 24 hour time...

 photo Screenshot_2015-12-02-10-14-42_zpsjv1ryrec.png
photobucket.com/.../Screenshot_2015-12-02-10-14-42

therefore AM

Phone number - <snip>
Wemo link firmware - WeMo_WW_2.00.9896.PVT-OWRT-Link
Wemo bulb 01 firmware - 83
Wemo bulb 02 firmware - 83
Device 01 - Samsung Galaxy S5
Device 01 OS - Android 5.0
Device 01 Wemo app version - 1.13.4
Device 02 - Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini
Device 02 OS - Android 4.4.2
Device 02 Wemo app version - 1.13.4

1. Is the app up yo date? - Yes.
2. Have I uninstalled/re-installed the app? - Yes.
3. Can I check another device? - Yes
4. Does it also revert? - Yes

Please take the time to read and understand the thread I have linked to. I have documented the process with images, tried it on 2 separate devices, and another member of the community (PeterJameson) has confirmed that he too has been aware of this for some time.

This seems to be an issue with the programming of the app. The simplest solution, IMHO, would be to convert wholly to the 24 hour format.

Re: Continuity between 12 and 24 hour clock

Greetings, escribblings

How frustrating all this is, especially for you. You've taken the trouble to supply screen shots of what happens on everyones' devices and the team are passing it to level two whilst still assuming (presumably) that the issue is something to do with your device.

All they needed to do is pick up an Android device and try setting up a timer and they'd see the long-running and much spoken of issue, agree there's a problem, and arrange a fix for the next update of the app, thus saving you all that effort.

Regards

Pete

Re: Continuity between 12 and 24 hour clock

Well Belkin tech support called me (from the US) today.

In the end I was on the phone to them for a few seconds under 16 minutes.  Most of that call was spent discussing this issue, and about 1 minute discussing the IFTTT issue.

I did end up rerpeating myself down the phone a couple of times, and explaining that the problem wasn't in my end but in their app (for the 12/24hr thing) and either the app of further down in the back end software for the IFTTT integration.

I also said that if they had taken the time to test it themselves they would see the issue.

Just waiting for my confirmaton email to confirm the phone call, but there is a *possibility* that there may be an app update in the next few days.

*fingers crossed*

Well done and thank you, escribblings

It looks as though after all this time you've caught the attention of the app development team. Let's hope it won't be too long before a fix is issued. At least it's not a major fault, so we can all get by until then.

Here's thanks to the team for recognising that there's a problem,  although it'd be nice if they did so on this thread rather than your having to tell everyone about it yourself.

Regards
