WeMo Resetting the Easy Way

WeMo Light Switches:

  1. Hold down reset until it blinks amber and green
  2. Roughly 30 to 60 seconds in total

WeMo Motion Senors, Switches and Links:

  1. Unplug the WeMo
  2. Hold down the reset button
  3. Plug the WeMo in
  4. Release the reset button a few seconds after it starts flashing amber
  5. Once the WeMo is flashing amber and green the reset is complete

WeMo Bulbs:

  1. Start with bulb on for 5 seconds
  2. Switch bulb off for 5 seconds
  3. Switch bulb on for 5 seconds
  4. Switch bulb off for 5 seconds
  5. Switch bulb on for 5 seconds
  6. Switch bulb off for 5 seconds
  7. Switch bulb on
  8. After 5 seconds the WeMo bulb should blink 3 times and the reset is complete

ok, I purchased a new switch at Best Buy. Same as the other switch. Both acted the same. After 15-20 seconds it was blinking red. Apparently it is amber but looks red. I hooked the old one up to the power socket in the ceiling (10ft ceiling in my garage) and from a distance it does look more amber but not up close. I played with the reset. It took 180 secondss for it to reset (YIKES). Now it is working again. I now have both of them working on my phone, ipod and tablet. I just wasn't holding the reset button in long enough. It never did blink amber and green. That must be for a different device.

I have been trying to get my wifi to recognize my Insight switch and have spent a lot of time looking through various tutorials and troubleshooting pages. I tried resetting the switch a number of times, but nothing was working. I then saw your post on how to reset a WeMo device the easy way. I tried it and it worked! Thanks so much for your post. What I don't understand is why your method isn't mentioned on the Belkin site (as least that I could see). So, kudos to you.

Kudo's and a quick add.

 

If a person happens to misread the resetting instructions and instead of "5 second switching" four times, you only do it three times, guess what? After three times the lamp in fact give one the satifying three blinks indicating a reset. But, it doesn't do a full reset.

 

Only after a couple of days did I realize my error and after MANY lamp and link resets, once I switched the lamps the complete four time cycle, everything was peacy.

It's been reported that resetting WeMo Bulbs works better when using a delay of 3 seconds instead of 5.
