Not sure if socket is compatible

Hello, I am trying to determine if a Wemo dimmer would work with my light. This is the current socket- there is a white wire which would seem to indicate the presence of the neutral, but it seems to be used as one of the live wires currently so I am not sure. Besides the neutral there is only one other wire connected and then the ground in the back of the box.

I am assuming this setup will not work with Wemo.

I would say you are assuming correctly - this appears to be "power through fixture" wiring.

Thank you for the reply! Do you know of any smart dimmer switches that would work with this kind of setup?

Re: Not sure if socket is compatible

I'm not aware of any.  The smart switches that I've seen need to be powered with line in and neutral.  The only (safe) solution that I'm aware of would be to add wires to get that to the switch box.  Perhaps via a separate line in (14-2 wire), or if you could replace the existing with 14-3 wiring you might use the existing power lines with a 3rd (usually red) wire for the load.

An easier choice might be to use smart bulbs in that location.
