WeMo hardware not working during night

Since the clocks have changed (maybe the week before) but very recently we are finding that in the early hours of the morning (say 2am onwards) none of our WeMo devices respond in the app. We've tried 2 phones (that work find during the day) on the WiFi and on 4G and nothing. This happens every night and then in the morning all are working again. The plug socket ones have an orange flashing light during this time which then goes off in the morning when everything is working again. During this time WiFi is working fine, broadband is working all is normal.

 

Any ideas?

May we know the model number of your Wemo devices and their current firmware? Can you clarify what you meant by the clocks have changed, did the change happen on your phones or on the router? Do other devices experience the same issue?

2 x WeMo Insight (firmware 2.00.11057)

2 x MZ100Bulbs (firmware 83)

 

iOS app 1.21

 

Daylight savings, clocks go back 1 hour.

 

Right now, all WeMo working correctly during the night all loose their WiFi connection.

Have you tried to reboot one of the Wemo devices or the router to isolate the issue? Please make sure the firmware is updated.

Re-booted the Router and some of the devices. Makes no difference. In the morning all is working fine again.

 

Are the devices not on the latest Firmware?

Hello Richard1

 

This is most likely your WiFi going weak overnight for some reason. Get an app that will show you your WiFi strength and test it during the night the outage compared with the daytime strength. If it does indeed go low strength, changing your WiFi channel might help.

PeterJameson has a point, Richard1. Blinking orange means that the connection is poor. May we know who is your ISP? What's the model of your router? How far are the switches from the router? For isolation, you may try placing one of your switches near the router and observe if it will be affected by the issue.

It's important to note that it's the quality of your local network you need to look at, that is the quality of the communication between your router and devices including WeMos that are connected to it via WiFi.

 

The speed of your router's connection with the outside world via your telephone line or fibre should not affect control of your WeMos particularly unless you are using remote access.

 

There are several things that could be spoiling your WiFi connection temporarily at night. For instance, my microwave oven upsets my WiFi. Another possibility is radar from say an airport or suchlike. If that's the case then again, changing your WiFi channel might help. Also, it could be that your router is rebooting for some reason on a timed basis. If it is, then your WiFi could be interrupted whilst it's going through its start-up routine.
