Wemo hardware is good. Wemo concept is good. The software? Ummmmm.
There are tons of messages on the support forums complaining about the difficulty of replacing a router or even simply following security best practices and chaning the password. It requires every Wemo switch to be reset! If you have one device that's a hassle. If you have 20 devices, it's a nightmare.
ALL THAT IS REQUIRED IS THAT THE DEVICE STORE TWO NETWORK CONFIGURATIONS! This is not rocket science. I should be able to use the app to:
1) connect to the current network. 2) go to a menu item (e.g. Network Options) and then a) specify a "primary" network configuration (generally the current network) b) specify a "fallback" network configuration. c) swap (a) and (b) if desired
d) select the devices to be updated from a list (defaulting to "all")
e) press a button to have the current and (new) fallback network configurations updated on all the selected devices.
This would make changing the wifi password trivial: a) choose the new wifi password, b) tell the devices what it will be and make it the new primary network configuration, and then c) change the actual password on the router.
This would make changing networks trivial if done in advance or when both networks are still operational.
If you want people use lots of Wemo devices to control their homes, you must make it practical to do so.
