Water Alarm

by Mac on ‎12-06-2014 04:33 PM
After having some success with the Maker working as a door alarm, I purchased another Maker to hook up to my battery powered water alarm ( http://www.homedepot.com/p/Basement-Watchdog-Battery-Operated-Water-Alarm-BWD-HWA/100038838 )

I cut the cord on the water alarm, put the alarm side onto the relay side of the maker & the water sensor part on the "-" & "S" connectors.
If I touch the water sensors with metal, the alarm works great.
If I set it in water, it doesn't trigger.
Any ideas if this setup is even possible?

It probably works by resistence and the resistence is not dropping low enough in water, only when you short it.  Could you use salt water for your leaks instead Smiley Tongue.  If you measure it you may find it's close and an additional resistor in parallel might bring it down.

Something like this: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Water-Sensor-Sensor-Liquid-Water-Surface-Height-Sensor-for-Arduino-/200963273... or this: hhttp://www.ebay.ca/itm/DC5V-1-Channel-Water-Humidity-Detection-Sensor-Delay-Relay-Module-Green-/31113571789... might work.  There a bunch of different sensors on ebay for arduinos that work well with the maker too.
