I feel that the WEMO system should be made "SOLAR POWER Friendly", in that it needs to cater for people's homes that have On-Grid Solar PV systems installed and running that both export and import power from the grid.
The system needs a way of being able to read how much power is currently being imported from the grid (purchased) or exported to the grid (from the Solar PV system when it's making more power than you are currently using) and then giving the home owner the option of DIVERTING "FREE POWER" to certain devices around your home (eg your clothes dryer, your spa pool, air con / heat pump, or radiator heater, hot water cylinder, heated towel rail, or other items on the priority list).
The list needs to have a priority order, eg firstly heat your hot water cylinder, then heat your spa pool and then turn on your towel rail or fan heater etc, and be smart enough to tell when FREE power is no longer available (eg another item in the house is now using the free power or a cloud has gone past and the free power has reduced) and then the system will automatically switch off these other devices on the list (as you are now paying for this power).
I feel having this functionality turns the system from a "MANUAL Control System with Energy Monitoring" into an "Automated Control system with Energy Monitoring + Smart Energy Management), so it would put the system into an entirely new league compared with what else is available on the market.
This would then be a MUST have for millions of Solar PV system owners around the world.
Please look into making this a reality to the wonderful Belkin WEMO team.
I'd love the option in a future app upgrade to be able to rename the "sensor triggered not triggered" to what it is actually doing i.e. "Door open, door closed" Just a thought. If this already an option, please, someone let me know.
I'd like to see the whole Wemo line redeveloped with teatherd access... at least all the switches!
Here is what i mean.
I getting sick and tired of connection issus with Wifi, sometimes the app works, sometimes it doesn't connect. Either way, I'd like to see a new line of Wemo that sends a propietary packet system in the home hydro lines for communications.
Here is what is needed, a Wemo Hub, that connection to your router in the basement, teatherd by ethernet, and is plugged into your electrical system in your house. This new hub would send signal in your own home elctrical system to other WEMO swictches that are plugged in!
No more setting up of the Wemo to your wireless network!
No more Wemo out of range either.
and also it should make the Wemo switch smaller for more applications..
I would like to install a WEMO smart bulb on my back deck, that only comes on with motion, between sunrise and sunset. Can I simply add a WEMO smart bulb to an external light fixture with a built in motion sensor?
I have both a Switch and Insight Switch. I would like to see an option to have them both be "Always On" after they boot up. It can still be defaulted to "Always Off" out-of-the-box, but an "Always On" option would make me [and others] happy consumers!
I have a refrigerator (max 1200W) plugged into an Insight, and I want it to come back on after a power outage. I also want it to come back on after a firmware upgrade (default is Off) or if unplugged and plugged back in.
I know I can probably use an IFTTT recipe, but that requires that my router has power and an internet connection. Another option is to set-up multiple rules to turn on the Insight every few hours (even if it is already on), but that doesn't seem very user-friendly.
This shouldn't be too hard to throw into a firmware & app upgrade.
I installed the wemo light switch in the bathroom because in my house people always leave the light on. Often times this occurs when we are in a rush and we end up running out the door with the bathroom light on. I want to conserve energy and have my wemo light turn off if it has been on for over 30 min.
I have looked in the IFFT recipes and i do not see a timer app for the wemo light swicth. I cant beleive this is not already a feature of this product.
Can't seem to actually get IFTTT to trigger anything on, lights, heater, or any object to Switch. I check my firewall, security & updates... There all good. That's not the problem, I also see on IFTTT that objects were systematically triggered but not physically, & I "Check Them" I guess to insure it's active. Why is it that the banners are sent or received but not working? How can I fix this to physically turn these puppies on?
Like to have the indicator lights changed from blue to amber for melatonin production or the ability to turn the indicator lights off (even though the motion sensor is detecting activity or the switch is on)
Currently using the motion sensor to control a switch with an amber light plugged in for nightime use to maintain melatonin production.
The motion sensor and switch emit blue light when on.
It would be very cool to have Bluetooth embedded (along with existing tech) in order to have a phone or bluetooth type pendant switch the device on or off...
The way it would work, is that you pair the wemo to the bluetooth device, and decide on a signal strengh that will set off the trigger. This would give specific users access to switch the devices on or off.
In other words, its diferent from the motion sensors, in that the lights wont go on or off with every movement of the kids, dogs and whathaveyou. With a bluetooth device (Even a WEMO Keychain Pendant with an on/ off) you can set certian devices to go on or off as well....
WEMO Bluetooth Pendant on Dog Collar:
Opens dog door for dog, turns on back porch light for dog when using restroom outside, etc.
Dog pendant wont turn on all of the lights, since you program it for certian lights only--- And IFTTT could alert you that its the dog triggering devices, so you know its not your neighborhood burglar.
Entry: Turns on hall lights when at the front door, or through the house.
Walk Though: Lights up certian areas as you walk through them in an office building
The idea is to have a controlled proximity trigger that you can quickly toggle on or off.
Since im on about a possible WEMO Pendant, how about 2 buttons... 1 on/off for it,,,but also 1 manual trigger to turn it Toggle on/off Manually..
So, if you walk into the bedroom with wife sleeping, and you forgot to turn it off, you can quickly push the button to turn off the switch you turned on (active via proximity) A fast and effective way to trigger without pulling out the phone and opening the app or widget
New product: a wall mountable Central Control Station for your wemo devices. Maybe about the size of a mini Ipad...which yes you smart guys, you can do if you wanted to dedicate a $400 device...something more economical...LCD screen...there's times your mobile device is just not at hand!😆
I used the WeMo Maker (and magnetic switch) to control my garage door. It works like a charm... However, I would like to automate this further by creating one of the following IFTTT rules:
if the wemo switch is NOT trigerred and I enter the area OPEN the garage door by "turn relay on momentarily"
if I eneter the area "turn relay on momentarily" only if the switch is NOT triggered
As far as I see the IFTTT does not allow the creation of the AND condition. I explored possibility of using the two rules, 1st checks one condition and if this condition is met it triggers another rule to check for another condition, but I cannot figure it out (sending an email and acting on the email is not an option due to long lag in receiving an email)
Any suggestions? Maybe WeMo or IFTTT could incorporate new condition and actions to their WeMo Maker possibilities.
I cut the cord on the water alarm, put the alarm side onto the relay side of the maker & the water sensor part on the "-" & "S" connectors. If I touch the water sensors with metal, the alarm works great. If I set it in water, it doesn't trigger. Any ideas if this setup is even possible?
I have a set of Wemo switches for my cable modem, wifi router and vonage phone hub in order to make it easy to restart the devices when the cable acts up (I have Optimum from Cablevision and it seems that every once in a while their modem needs a restart).
I have issues with the switches when I have to install a firmware upgrade as they need to download the firmware and then restart which because they use Wifi, can't complete the process properly. As a workaround, I attach the cable modem and the wifi router to a power strip when doing the upgrades.
Could it be possible to create a new version of the switch that uses bluetooth for firmware updates? e.g. Stage the firmware on my iPhone and then apply the firmware in a point-to-point manner instead of having the switch pull it over the wifi network.
Also it would be nice to have the ability to operate the switch from a secondary wireless network in case Wifi is down...
or...Alternatively use the Wifi peer 2 peer functionality (similar to what Apple is using in its AirDrop technology) so that I can still operate the switch and update it without having a full Wifi network hosted from a router.
As I add more Wemo devices to my home, just wondering if its possible to create a better UI for managing large numbers of these devices...For example the ability to group these devices into "folders" or some sort of organization facility would help to avoid me having to scroll through a number of devices.
Also some sort of search (perhaps integrated with the built-in iPhone search) to allow me to quickly find the switch or device and turn it on or off.
Android Wear integration (turn on/off lights from a watch!)
Cloud backup (so multiple devices are all synced up)
I'll post any updates when I get around to them but in the meantime if you have any suggestions or feedback let me know.
The downside is the app can only run locally. So you still need the basic WeMo app to provision devices. Set them up in your home network and fire away. If someone from Belkin reads this, if you allow me access to the API I would gladly integrate it!
