I believe there are multiple reasons that Belkin should provide a web interface for managing an indivisulas WeMo network. Here are some of the reasons I would like it, I am sure others have some good reasons also.
1)Cell phones become obsolete too quickly to be used as the only manager for a product that should be expected to be in use for many years.
2)I use my WeMo device in remote locations, some are hours away but accessable remotely. If I lose/break/upgrade my phone, it is unrealsitic to have to travel to all of my remote sites to get my network back on my phone. A web interface would not only allow for me to continue to control the network, but could possibly allow for me to push my network to the Belkin App on my new phone.
3)Phone operating systems update so frequently, requiring frequent application updates, which can only lead to issues for us users.
4)Belkin should have no issues with constructing a web interface considering they have been in the networking game for years.
I for one have a number of light switches I would love to replace with WEMO's however the switches in question are 3-way. While I understand if the WEMO devices don't talk to each other, but neither do the analog switches I have today. Please consider adding 3 way switches this way your customer won't have to look at other products such as z-wave devices.
Creating the web app that could access our devices through your WeMo server would eliminate the need for building apps across multiple devices and platforms. I currently have some wifi cameras from another company and they provide both apps for iPhone/iPad and the web based interface that I can use from a PC or Mac or another tablet that has a browser.
It would be nice if the WeMo modules could be configured to use a default ON state after a power outage, such that lights would come back ON when the power returned.
Firstly, I believe that ON/OFF state should be remembered even after a power outage anyway, so that if a light was on, it comes back on when the power returns. IMHO this should be the "normal" behaviour since this is what would be expected if WeMo switches weren't being used. Right now, after a power failure, any WeMo connected lights remain off.
Additionally, however, I would like to see an optional setting that could be used to have lights turn ON, regardless of previous state, following a return of power to the WeMo modules. This would not only be useful for things like actual power outages, but also switched outlets -- allowing a lamp to optionally be controlled by the wall switch. In this case, turning ON the wall switch would turn on the WeMo which would turn on the attached lamp.
I understand that the current app only has the ability to control one location remotely. However, this seems to be a silly restriction and significantly limits the functionality of the product.
I have two properties that are several hundred kilometers away. Right now if I want to control both properties remotely, I need two separate devices, one for each property, which is ridiculous. If one device breaks or I lose it, I lose any ability to control one property. And if I happed to lose the device that controls the property that is truly remote, the only way I have to reconnect a new device is to physically drive 2-3 hours just so I can connect to the wifi and restablish connection. Again, this is ridiculous.
Both locations go to the cloud before they go to my device. Therefore, it should be fairly simple to be able to select different locations from within the app. From the app on a single device, I should be able to switch back and forth between property A and property B.
As a point in reference, I have a wifi thermostat in each property. I am easilty able to control each property from a single app on a single device. In addition, there is a web interface which I can use if my device breaks. This is not rocket science. I have had these wifi thermostats for 3 years. Please consider adding this basic funcationality to your app.
I would love to see a Wemo 3 Way light switch. I have multiple locations in my home where I have 3 Way switches and I would love to be able to control those lights with my iPhone, preferably with HomeKit. And if you could also figure out a way to make it dim dimmable that would just be awesome!!!!!
You'd have thousands of developers almost overnight if you open sourced the firmware. Look at all of the companies out there that are doing just FINE with open source. Red Hat, PuppetLabs, Ubuntu. Belkin, you make the hardware and let the hacking community make the best firmware possible.
It would be nice if Belkin were to partner with a manufacturer that already provides a wall plate ceiling fan control that could also tie into IFTTT. Example such as "If the outside temp goes below 75 degrees, set the bedroom fan to low". This way when it cools down while you're asleep, you won't be chilly because the fan is too high.
Hi there - I was directed to this site from getsatisfaction.
I was hoping to get some insight (excuse the pun) on when or if there is an iPad app in development. It is really frustrating to have no access to landscape mode, especially when that is exactly how the netcams want to work. I have my iPad wall mounted as a control station, and this feature would be awesome
I'd love it if you could set a password on the WeMo app as a whole. On a more granular level, I'd love to be able to set a password on individual switches within the app. In my case, my kids have phones and I don't necessarily want them to be able to control all of our WeMo enable devices in our home. ; )
